Ever get sick of throwing away expensive blades? I know I got sick of it real quick. I tried alternative, safety razors that have the cheap single double edged blade (which by the way are getting much harder to find) to expensive cartridges that I thought would last longer. I realized that the double edged razor may not be the best after I swear I almost bled out in the shower and expensive blades dulled just as fast as any other. I started doubting that the simple act of cutting hair dulled these blade so fast. I thought back to my archery hunting and realized the same thing was happening to my broad head razors although (since I am such a great hunter) I never even took a shot with them all year. I thought about the broad heads I purchased and how they were advertised as the sharpest blades on the market. They showed up wrapped in a wax coating. I thought that was strange. After a few more nights of thinking about it I realized why they did this. It was to keep the blades free from oxygen and moisture. Even the stainless steel blades oxidize causing them to seem duller and less sharp.
I thought well if that process works for Broad heads why wouldn't it work with shaving razors? Now yes, I am smart enough to know that you cannot shave with a wax coating on your blade. I am not that slow. I needed to come up with a way to protect the blade from this pesky thing we need to live, oxygen. After a few attempts I came up with the idea for using alcohol (not just cause I may have been drinking it at the time) to get rid of the moisture and oxygen. Problem was you cannot leave a shaving razor with plastic and comfort strips soaked in alcohol. I found out, yes it will destroy every thing fairly fast. So I set out to come up with a device that could wick the moisture off your blade, keep it in an oxygen reduced atmosphere and still be usable.
Once I came up with the idea and rough design I started tweaking it. I knew that I am lazy and if there are any additional steps or inconveniences to do this I would not do it (at least I am honest with myself). So I had to create something that will preserve the blade and comfort strip and not have any additional steps. After many attempts Ideal Shave was born.
The blades last longer, stay sharper, even rejuvenates some older blades and is built for a lazy person that does not like extra steps mucking up the process.
